BAGHPAT: Eight persons were arrested by police after a violent clash erupted between two groups of shopkeepers in Baraut area in Bhagpat of Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
Eight people have been arrested in connection with the clash that broke out between two groups of shopkeepers in Baraut area of Baghpat. Necessary action is being taken, said Baghpat Police.

Defensor says House should resolve issues first with Senate regarding economic Cha-cha

Anakalusugan party-list Representative Mike Defensor on Tuesday said the House of Representatives should resolve first with the Senate two issues about the proposal to amend the economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution rather than rushing it.
I believe that in rushing Cha-cha, the House is putting the cart before the horse. The House should first resolve with the Senate at least two contentious issues, Defensor said in a statement.
One is whether the two chambers need to approve a joint resolution formally convening themselves into a constituent assembly before one or both of them can tackle any amendment proposal. The other issue is whether the two chambers vote separately, he added. ....

House panel adopts reso proposing economic Cha-cha

The House committee on constitutional amendments on Tuesday approved the joint resolution proposing amendments to the restrictive economic provisions in the 1987 Constitution.
With a vote of 62 in the affirmative, three in the negative, and three abstentions, the panel approved Speaker Lord Allan Velasco s Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 2, which seeks to amend existing economic provisions in the Constitution in a bid to open up the Philippines to foreign direct investments (FDIs) which could help the country recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The panel also subsequently approved its committee report on their deliberations and approval of the measure, which came on the 34th anniversary of the ratification of the 1987 Constitution. ....

Castro wants Cha-cha delibs go straight to House plenary

Capiz Representative Fredenil Castro on Tuesday urged the House Committee on Constitutional Amendments to bring the deliberations on the economic Charter change straight to the plenary to save lawmakers some time in the discussions.
During the continuation of the panel deliberations, Castro suggested that the committee already terminate its hearings and vote on Speaker Lord Allan Velasco s Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 2, which proposes amendments to the restrictive economic provisions in the 1987 Constitution.
He argued the panel is pressed for time and the questions that lawmakers would want to propound in the committee hearings can also be asked in the plenary. ....
