Initial Steps Toward Cleaner Water Heading To Sandwich Town Meeting


Next month, Sandwich voters will be asked to begin implementing the town’s ambitious water cleanup plan, which includes engineering sewer pipe layouts and other wastewater infrastructure.
Specifically, taxpayers will be asked to approve the first disbursement of funds from a special water infrastructure investment fund, better known by its nickname, “WIIF.”
“This will get us on the path” toward a $80 million, 25-year plan to clean up Sandwich’s ponds and properly dispose of its wastewater, Town Manager George H. (Bud) Dunham told members of the Sandwich Finance Committee this week.
At the May 3 annual Town Meeting, the public will be asked to allocate $1 million of the fund for preliminary engineering reports on collecting and moving sewage as well as its treatment and disposal. ....

Upper Cape Tech Budget To Increase 2.2 Percent


The Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School is looking at a budget increase of just over 2 percent for next year.
That is about half of what the current year’s budget had increased over the previous year’s.
Superintendent Roger Forget presented the budget to the Sandwich Finance Committee on March 9.
As presented by Mr. Forget, the preliminary gross operating budget is slated at $17.9 million, an increase of 2.2 percent over the current year’s budget.
Each of the school’s sending towns—Sandwich, Bourne, Falmouth, Wareham and Marion—are responsible for a percentage of the school budget. Mr. Forget said those amounts have been determined based on the number of students each town sends to the regional high school, but the Sandwich School Committee has not yet approved the budget, so he is not ready to release that information publicly. ....
