Sajid Khan, a Santa Clara County deputy public defender and criminal justice reform advocate, is running for county district attorney, he announced at a San Jose rally on Sunday. He is challenging Jeff Rosen, who has held the position since 2011.
Khan said in an announcement that he would run as a true progressive and would focus on rooting out systemic racism, shrinking mass criminalization and addressing the root causes of crime. He has been a public defender serving Santa Clara County for 13 years and has fought for people s constitutional rights and against systemic racism and mass incarceration, according to the announcement. ....

As crowds gathered to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the South Bay Wednesday, there was a sense of joy and relief as getting a COVID-19 vaccination was part of the festivities.
The Santa Clara County Public Health Department says it didn’t really want to see large public gatherings, but also saw an opportunity to reach out to what has been a reluctant community setting up a pop-up clinic in the middle of the Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Mi Pueblo Plaza on Story and King Road in San Jose.

Santa Clara County Deputy Sukhdeep Gill accused of faking being shot, ambush on himself in January 2020

SAN JOSE Calif. (KGO) A Santa Clara County Deputy, who claimed he was shot during an ambush last year, has been arrested after prosecutors accused him of fabricating the story.
Sukhdeep Singh Gill was booked on one felony count of vandalism and one misdemeanor count of making a false report to police on Friday.
When you take a close look at the evidence, the story just didn t add up, said Jason Malinsky, the Deputy District Attorney prosecuting the case.
