The war of words between the Deputy Commissioners of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar over the death of COVID-19 patients in Chamarajanagar district hospital due to non-availability of oxygen continued on Wednesday with the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru Rohini Sindhuri clarifying that she neither rationed nor controlled oxygen supplies to Chamarajanagar.
“I categorically state that as Deputy Commissioner Mysuru, I did not ration or control oxygen supplies to Chamarajanagar district or any other district”, Ms Sindhuri said in a statement on Wednesday. ....

The government of Karnataka has appointed a
commission of Inquiry, which includes retired judge of High Court Justice B A Patil, to probe into the
deaths of COVID-19 patients reportedly due to oxygen shortage at
District Hospital,
Chamarajanagar on Monday.
A document from the Karnataka government secretariat stated that the terms of reference of the commission will be to inquire into the circumstances and events leading to the deaths of COVID-19 patients in District Hospital, Chamarajanagar on May 3, reportedly due to scarcity of oxygen and any further similar incidents, which are entrusted to the Commission of Inquiry by the government . ....

HC inclined to order judicial probe into COVID-19 deaths in Chamarajanagar

Taking note of the death of 23 COVID-19 patients at the Chamarajanagar district hospital and of one patient at a private hospital, allegedly due to shortage in supply of oxygen, the High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday indicated to the State government that it was in favour of ordering a judicial probe into the incident.
The court directed the government to submit the SOP/guidelines being followed to allocate oxygen to hospitals in various cities and districts.
A Special Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Aravind Kumar passed the order while hearing a batch of PIL petitions on issues related to COVID-19. ....
