Marist finish W-League campaign with loss to classy Wellington side

Marist had a couple of early chances, but the visitors found the back of the net first when, in the 23rd minute, Jemma Robertson scored directly from a corner.
“After that we were chasing the game because we needed to win,” said Marist coach Barry Scullion.
Marist hearts sank further in the 29th minute when Robertson struck again with a shot from about 30 metres out that sailed into the top corner.
Robertson added a third to seal the game in the 84th minute.
A disappointed Scullion said Wellington were the better team and deserved their win, saying Marist didn’t perform. After their initial chances they didn’t look like scoring. ....

Wellington United kicked off the 2021 season
winning two trophies on Good Friday.The first was the Kelly
Cup, in its 48th year, making it the oldest Women s football
trophy in New Zealand.
The second was the
Commemorative Cup, the trophy that is on the line every time
we meet old rivals Miramar Rangers.In recent seasons the
Kelly Cup has become a pre-season competition and the
Diamonds were coming up against old foes Palmerston North
Marist. In getting to the final Diamonds had racked up 22
goals and conceded just one beating Petone Reserves 10-0, ....
