'A whole different ballgame:' PHR quietly expands hours into the evening

The biggest request by clients at Prairie Harm Reduction (PHR) has been fulfilled.
Since June 21, the safe consumption site has been operating through the evenings. The soft opening gave executive director Jason Mercredi time to prepare, but the expansion to hours from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. was formally announced Monday.
“It’s nice to be open in the evenings. We’ve been able to stop a number of overdoses from happening in and around the building. Also, they’ll have a place to go in the evening,” he said Monday before giving an example of one recent incident at the PHR site. ....

Frontline employees at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, private physician offices, private digital imaging labs and community clinics are all eligible for inoculation after one organization’s frustration with the criteria reached the floor of the Saskatchewan legislature on Friday.
Saskatoon Community Clinic executive director Lisa Clatney said around 40 of her employees who should have been eligible under the current criteria were originally turned away because they don’t work for the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Saskatchewan’s Minister of Mental Health and Addictions has directed the Saskatchewan Health Authority to create 13 sites where people can use illicit drugs under medical supervision, braving new waters for a province that has never publicly funded that type of program.
Minister Everett Hindley said it will be offered in hotels and other sites the health authority operates for people under COVID-19 self-isolation orders, part of a suite of measures designed to help people who use drugs quarantine successfully.
