Covid-19 positive cases surge past 30 per cent in Karachi

Alarm bells started ringing in Islamabad over the Covid-19 situation in Karachi where positive cases surged to 30.58 per cent as 1,704 people tested positive when 5,571 tests were conducted at 24 testing facilities in the city over the past 24 hours, Sindh health department officials said on Tuesday.
“The positivity of cases is continuously rising in Karachi, and we are still far from peak of this wave. With an alarmingly high number of Covid-19 cases, hospitalisation has reached record numbers and now most of the tertiary-care health facilities are unable to cope up with the pressure of patients,” an official of the health department told The News. ....

Alarming rise in Covid-19 cases in Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh chief minister Friday announced to shut down dining at restaurants and marriage halls, close shrines, recreational spots and educational institutions, except those where examinations are taking place and reduced business timings of markets/shops from 6am to 6pm from Monday.
CM Murad Ali Shah took the decision following the recommendations from Provincial Taskforce on Covid-19. The situation prompted the provincial government to send an SOS signal to the National Command and Operation Center for more oxygen cylinders and related equipment to treat the rising number of critical patients as oxygen crises intensified in Karachi hospitals.
Presiding over the meeting of Provincial Taskforce on Covid-19, the chief minister said that pharmacies and bakeries would operate as usual, but there would be two closed days: Friday and Sunday, while the government and private offices would function with 50 percent staff attendance, except the departmen ....

7,349 health workers have been administered the covid vaccine shots in Sindh.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The vaccination of the frontline health workers against coronavirus is Saturday ongoing across the country. 2,645 professionals have been administered the vaccine shots in Sindh on day three, taking the provincial tally to 7,349.
According to the Sindh Health Department, 619 doses have been administered at Khaliq Dina Hall, 233 at Jinnah Hospital, 190 at Dow Hospital, 158 at Qatar Hospital, 72 at Government Children Hospital, 72 at Liaquatabad Hospital, 97 at New Karachi Hospital, 262 at Sindh Government Hospital Korangi, 458 in Malir District, 115 in Jamshoro and 415 in Shaheed Benazirabad. ....

CM to open Covid-19 inoculation drive today as Chinese vaccine arrives

The Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine’s first consignment containing 83,000 doses arrived at the Karachi airport on Tuesday evening.
The consignment was received by Sindh health secretary Kazim Jatoi, Project Director Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Dr Akram Sultan and other officials at the airport, from where it was shifted to the EPI storage centre in the city.
“We have received the first consignment of the Sinopharm vaccine from Islamabad, which arrived here in Karachi on Tuesday evening through a commercial flight. It comprises 83,000 doses, and from Wednesday, the vaccination of frontline healthcare workers will commence at a ceremony,” an official of the health department told The News. ....
