Delta variant on rise as Covid positivity hits 23% in Karachi

The Covid-19 positivity ratio in the port city has reached 23% due to the presence of the Delta variant, a private TV channel reported on Sunday, citing data released by Karachi University’s International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS).
According to the report, out of 90 samples tested at the ICCBS labs, the Delta variant was detected in 83 of them. Health experts say that if the cases continue to increase, the death toll in the country is also likely to get higher. Health authorities say that owing to the Delta variant, the number of coronavirus cases is rapidly increasing, so much so that hospitals are on the verge of reaching capacity. ....

Only vaccinated persons can travel in passenger coaches, check into hotels, attend outdoor wedding functions, says Sindh govt. 
Smart lockdown imposed in District Korangi till July 31. 
Pakistan today reported over 2,600 cases of coronavirus. 
KARACHI: For residents of Sindh, traveling in passenger coaches or accessing cattle markets or checking into hotels has been allowed only on one condition: they must get vaccinated.

KARACHI: The Sindh government Sunday announced fresh measures to curb the coronavirus from spreading and encouraging vaccination against the infection. 
The Sindh Home Ministry issued directions for the government to ensure that only vaccinated persons are allowed to commute through passenger buses, check into hotels, eat at restaurants and attend outdoor wedding functions. 
Amid likely increased movement/activities during Eid Ul Azha; the special focus for SOPs compliance of the Divisional/District Administration will also be on following areas:

Twenty-nine Bangladeshi nationals, who were released from Malir and Karachi jails in Sindh province of Pakistan, returned home on Wednesday night, said the Foreign Ministry.
Another eight Bangladeshi nationals, released from Malir Jail, will return to the country today with financial assistance from the Foreign Ministry.
These eight expatriates were legal workers on a fishing boat in Oman. In May 2019, while they were fishing in the Arabian Sea adjacent to Oman, Pakistani Coast Guard held them as their fishing boat plunged into Pakistani waters due to strong current.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen directly supervised the matter and gave the government approval for travel expenses including airfare considering their financial status to bring them back to the country as soon as possible. ....
