Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed authorities to set up a committee to study the use of green chiretta (Andrographis paniculata) extracts to treat Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms.
The announcement was made at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, which was convened to discuss additional measures to help curb the Covid-19 outbreak, the premier said on Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was appointed head of the committee.
It will coordinate studies on the safety and efficacy of green chiretta extracts on Covid-19 patients, as well as draft a strategic plan to promote Thai traditional medicine in general. ....

Covid-infected inmates recover using chiretta

Close to 3,000 Covid-19 infected inmates in Chiang Mai Central Prison with mild symptoms have fully recovered after treatment using only a herbal medicine made from green chiretta (Andrographis paniculata), according to Justice Minister Somsak Thepsutin.
Let me share these interesting figures with you. A total of 1,251 infected inmates in the Chiang Mai prison have been treated with favipiravir, while 2,914 have been treated with only the green chiretta herbal medicine, the minister said yesterday.
The ones coughing and having trouble breathing were treated with favipiravir, while the people with less serious symptoms were given the herbal medicine, he said.
He was speaking at a meeting with a number of state agencies on a policy to promote herb growing in all prisons. ....

Chiang Mai inmate died of Covid-19

A male inmate died of Covid-19 in Chiang Mai province as the Corrections Department confirmed 1,429 more inmates contracted the disease over the past 24 hours.
Dr Weerakit Hanpariphan, deputy director-general of the department, said on Tuesday that the late 52-year-old inmate was at the Chiang Mai Central Prison. He had been diagnosed with Covid-19 on May 8 and received medical treatment since then.
Last Friday, the inmate was sent to Nakornping Hospital but his conditions did not improve.
He had suffered from diabetes, hypertension, renal failure and high cholesterol. Personnel of the hospital had taken the best care of the inmate he had been given antiviral medicines and put on a ventilator. The prisoner died at 5am on Tuesday, Dr Weerakit said. ....

CHIANG MAI: For the first time since the beginning of the current wave of the pandemic almost two months ago, no new Covid-19 infection was reported in this northern province on Monday, the provincial communicable disease committee said.
According to the committee, the accumulated number of Covid patients since the outbreak of the virus was 4,048. Of them, 3,709 had recovered, 319 are still being treated at various hospitals and 20 had died.
Of the patients under treatment, 245 were in the green category or asymtomatic, 43 in the yellow category or with mild symptoms, 20 in the orange category or with moderate to serious symptoms, and 11 in the red category or with a serious condition. Of the tot ....
