Land Minister Byeon Chang-heum had to make a public apology even before he took office. Since he was nominated to lead the nation s real estate policy on Dec. 4 last year, public criticism against his past inappropriate remarks and his following apologies have made bigger headlines than his policies.
When he was nominated for the minister position, a past remark he made when he was head of the Seoul Housing & Communities Corp. (SH) surfaced. It was about an accident at Guui Station in Seoul in 2016, where a subcontracted 19-year-old irregular worker was killed by a subway train while fixing a safety door on a subw ....

Land Minister nominee Byeon Chang-heum repeatedly apologized for controversial past remarks after being blasted by opposition lawmakers at his confirmation hearing Wednesday. He also pledged to supply more homes in station areas to address housing shortages.
At the parliamentary confirmation hearing, lawmakers from the opposition party called for the nomination of Byeon, CEO of the state-run housing developer Korea Land & Housing Corp., to be withdrawn, saying he does not have “the minimum dignity as a human.” ....
