The Punjab Department of Communication and Works (C&W) is set to undergo considerable operational changes, in a bid to eliminate complaints of corruption and ensure effective technical and financial oversight of all phases of developmental works.
The decision comes after several reports of substandard quality materials being used in the repair of the province’s roads and government buildings, constructed annually at costs climbing up to billions of rupees.
In addition to that, the Department of Maintenance and Repair (M&R) Buildings and the Department of Maintenance and Repair (M&R) Highways are going to be abrogated and replaced by two departments of Monitoring and Evaluations and Special Initiatives, which are soon to be set up. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China will soon have a new and alternative short road connectivity as an alternative to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which would be constructed by Pakistan at the cost of Rs 50 billion.
The new route funded by the Pakistani government will be in addition to the Shandur route connecting to China under the CPEC and will help expedite the pace of economic development between the two countries. The route would be around 350 kilometers shorter than the existing via Khunjerab pass. ....

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China will soon have a new and alternative short road connectivity as an alternative to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which would be constructed by Pakistan at the cost of Rs 50 billion.
The new route funded by the Pakistani government will be in addition to the Shandur route connecting to China under the CPEC and will help expedite the pace of economic development between the two countries. The route would be around 350 kilometers shorter than the existing via Khunjerab pass.
In an official letter written to Gilgit Baltistan’s Works Department (GBWD), it has been asked to prepare a concept clearance proposal for new route which would pass through Shigar, Skardu, and Astor districts and connect to Muzaffarabad district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). ....

Senate deputy chairman is accused of facilitating sale of govt plots, receiving money through fake accounts
ISLAMABAD:
In a major breakthrough in the fake accounts scandal, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwala over Kidney Hills plots allotment case.
NAB has nominated Saleem Mandviwala, Nadeem Mandviwala, Ejaz Haroon, Abdul Ghani Majeed and Tariq Mahmood as the accused. Saleem Mandviwala is alleged to have facilitated Ejaz Haroon in selling government plots to Omni Group’s Abdul Ghani Majeed.
According to the NAB reference, Haroon received huge sums of money from fake accounts in exchange for the plots. He prepared backdated files of the plots and then Mandviwala assisted him in selling them to Abdul Ghani Majeed. ....
