'Punjab to introduce interfaith harmony policy'

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Ijaz Alam Augustine has said the provincial government is set to introduce an interfaith harmony policy, which is aimed to promote peaceful coexistence between diverse citizenry of Punjab.
He was speaking at multi-stakeholder dialogue: “Towards Improved Human Rights Protection in Punjab”, jointly organised by the Democracy Reporting International and Punjab Human Rights and Minority Affairs Department.
The minister said: “We need to change societal behaviour to ensure respect for people’s rights, especially of minority communities.” While speaking on the occasion, Tahir Khalil Sindhu, chairperson of the Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights and Minorities Affairs, extended support to human rights stakeholders. PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Feb, 2021 ) :Over 20 government officials received a two-day training on Pakistan s International Human Rights Reporting Obligations organised by Huqooq-e-Pakistan Project, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Human Rights & European Union, and UNDPPakistan.
The training, which was inaugurated by Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department Masood Ahmad, was aimed at enhancing the technical and operational capacities of the officials of the KP Human Rights and Minority Affairs Department and the KP Treaty Implementation Cell in reporting and implementation of international human rights commitments of Pakistan. ....

ISLAMABAD: Christian community across Pakistan, like other parts of the world, is all set to celebrate the grand festival of Christmas today (December 25) in a befitting manner. Although most of the celebrations of this important festivity will go on digitally across the world due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, however, the Christian community has finalised their preparations to mark this festivity expressing traditional enthusiasm along with following precautionary measures to remain safe from the virus.
The festival of Christian community will be marked through different activities ranging from official gatherings to cake cutting ceremonies at the level of small communities through adopting the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of COVID-19. Clerics on Saturday assured the provincial government of full support in implementing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) prescribed to keep the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic from spreading, especially during its second wave.
The assurances were given during a meeting convened on Saturday by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs Department on the directives of the provincial chief secretary on devising a strategy to combat the current surge in Covid-19 cases. ....
