KUALA LUMPUR - As a committee member at his local mosque in Malaysia s Selangor state, Mr Rasdi Zin is more than familiar with the imam s sermons during Friday prayers advising Muslims on how to go about their daily lives during the coronavirus pandemic.
In recent weeks however, he has noticed an emphasis on vaccination, with the imam encouraging the congregation to register for and receive inoculations.
For the past two weeks, we received insightful knowledge on how to respond to a deadly pandemic. We were told. to take preventive measures like stay at home, wear a mask and take the Covid-19 vaccine, the 64-year-old retiree told The Straits Times. ....

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) and Islamic religious authorities in the state will work with the police to ensure that investigations into the case involving a man who was alleged to have attempted to commit unnatural sex, will be continued according to provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Mais chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the Federal Court’s decision on the matter could not be seen as a form of recognition of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.
“This is because committing sexual intercourse against the order of nature is still a very serious offence that goes against the teachings of Islam, morality and norms of Malaysian society, as mentioned by Allah in Surah al-Syu’ara verses 165 and 166,” he said in a statement today. ....

SHAH ALAM, Dec 17 Mohd Ezra Mohd Zaid today expressed his happiness at finally being freed from a Shariah trial following his arrest by Selangor Islamic religious enforcers almost eight years ago over a book in Bahasa Malaysia that was published by his company ZI Publications Sdn Bhd.
Shortly after the Petaling Shariah subordinate court decided to discharge and acquit him from a Shariah charge over the book’s publication, Ezra took to Twitter to share his gratitude on the decision and to all who had supported him. ....
