Group makes $6,500 donation to area camp

On Sunday, Feb. 7, the Red Knights Motorcycle Club gathered at Scooters Bar and Grill to present a check for $6,500 to the Saint Florian Fire and Burn Foundation.
âThis is fantastic,â Megan Wichmann, who accepted the check on behalf of the foundation, said.
Wichmann said the group first reached out to them about a year ago with the idea of running a fundraiser. The foundation runs a camp at Lake Okaboji for kids that have sustained burn injuries. The funds raised will go toward covering the costs of sending a child to camp, about $1,000 per child.
âIt gives them another community that backs them,â Wichmann said of the camp. ....

More than 6,000 Local Children Benefit From Toy Drive

The Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau INTERFACE program’s 2020 Holiday Toy Drive provided toys for over 1,000 families in need, including 6,337 children.

According to the Town’s website, INTERFACE is a partnership between individuals, good corporate neighbors and the Town of Brookhaven to provide help to Brookhaven s less fortunate residents.

This year, more than 72 businesses and clubs, including JVC Broadcasting and the Red Knights Motorcycle Club LI Chapter NY-25 held events or collected toys at locations across Brookhaven Town.

The Covid-19 pandemic changed things up this year. The annual Red Knights Motorcycle Club and JVC Broadcasting Toy Drives were held as drive-up/drop-off events in the Brookhaven Town Hall parking lot. The JVC event featured on-air personalities from all five JVC Broadcasting radio stations, including My Country 96.1, LI News Radio 103.9, LaFiesta 98.5, Oldies 98.1 and Party 105.3. ....

Gadsden's fire chief announces he will retire Feb. 1

Gadsden Fire Chief Stephen Carroll reported Tuesday to the Gadsden City Council about the department s annual Toys from Santa campaign, and then told them, with a heavy heart, that the 2020 campaign would be his last as chief.
Carroll told Council members in a teleconference that he plans to retire Feb. 1, after serving 21 and a half years as Gadsden s chief.
The chief got a little emotional talking to the Council something he jokingly blamed on the COVID-19 vaccine he d received earlier that morning about his years with the department, and his appreciation for the support city leaders have shown for the department during his tenure. ....
