RESIDENTS in Castleconnell are up in arms said a local councillor over two water outages in two days.
On Wednesday it was to facilitate the repair of a fire hydrant. Today it was for Irish Water to repair a burst main. On both occasions, Castlerock and surrounding estates were affected. 
Cllr Sean Hartigan said people are up in arms because they weren t informed. 
I am going to make contact with Irish Water to highlight the issue of people not being aware water is being tuned off. It might cause problems with washing machines, said Cllr Hartigan. ....

GREEN Party councillor Sean Hartigan has denied claims he was driving during a council meeting – and said the mayor “muzzled” him.
During last week’s full council meeting, held virtually due to Covid-19 level 5 restrictions, it was noted by many members, including Mayor Michael Collins and Cllr Jerome Scanlan that Hartigan was in his car.
“Ye must be driving home for Christmas,” the Independent Feohanagh councillor quipped, while Mayor Collins said afterwards: “If he was taking the meeting seriously, he wouldn’t have been in his car at the time.” ....

Residents living near the University of Limerick (UL) say their neighbourhood has become a drug-fuelled non-stop party zone that is attracting youths from all over the city.
They voiced their concern as gardaí made five arrests following a large party in College Court, near the university, on Tuesday night. Three men in the Carysfort Avenue were arrested, two in their 20s under Public Order Legislation, and one man under the Misuse of Drugs Legislation.  Fifty fixed charge penalty notices were issued for breaches of the Health Act. ....

Concerns voiced over proposed hospital project in Limerick

THE co-leader of the Social Democrats Roisin Shortall has expressed concern over the proposed hospital project on the nortshide of Limerick city.
In plans unveiled last month, a greenfield site between Coonagh and Moyross will see a private facility from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre, alongside 108 new social and affordable homes.
This is down from a tender document from council which suggested the lands to the west of the Regeneration estate had the potential for up to 600 homes.​
The plans came as part of a €400m development announcement which identified 200 homes across three sites in the city. ....
