Already beset with problems on the production and export fronts, the Indian seafood sector fears further setback due to the proposed retaliatory tariff by the US and impending freight rate hike.
US trade authorities are planning retaliatory tariffs against the imposition of two per cent tax by India on revenue generated by digital services offered in India.

Newly-appointed Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin on Monday slammed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for forcing Pakistan to increase the electricity tariff and termed it “injustice”.
Tarin spoke about the global money lender in a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs. The meeting was chaired by the committee chairman, Faiz Ullah Kamoka.
“IMF did injustice to Pakistan, the demand to increase the electricity tariff is unjustified,” said the minister, adding that the price hike had stopped the economy from moving forward and also increased corruption. ....

Toll hike postponement covers highways, bridges


PETALING JAYA: The postponement of toll hikes this year will be extended to 20 highways and two bridges, including the SMART Tunnel, and is expected to cost taxpayers over RM2bil.
In a statement yesterday, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said the government would have to pay RM2.093bil to postpone hikes due this year.
This did not include obligations to pay RM160.1mil to defer hikes on toll charges for the Kesas Highway, South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2 (LPT2), it added.
“In line with the government’s decision, consumers will continue to enjoy toll payments at a lower rate compared to the toll rates under the concession agreements. ....

Association of highway concessionaires welcomes govt's toll rate postponement


PETALING JAYA: The Association of Highway Concessionaires Malaysia (PSKLM) has welcomed the government s decision to postpone the increase of toll rates.
Its president Datuk Azman Ismail said they understand the government s decision following the challenges that the country faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
PSKLM and all the highway concessionaire companies will continue to be committed to help the country weather through the Covid-19 pandemic as well as continue to provide our best services to ensure the safety and comfort of all our highway users.
PSKLM also urged for the support and cooperation of highway users to drive carefully and to comply with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) that is set by the National Security Council and the Health Ministry for the safety and well-being of all parties, he said in a statement on Sunday (May 2). ....
