IECC admin board members reelected in new ballot

KABUL (Pajhwok): The administrative board members of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) were reelected to their previous positions in a new voting, the commission said on Sunday.
A statement from IECC received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that administrative board members of the commission remained on their previous positions, a decision made during a meeting attended by majority of the office members on Saturday.
Based on article 29 of the election and the admin board rules, the vote for head, deputy head and secretary of the commission was held on Saturday.
The IECC resolution letter received by Pajhwok shows that Zahra Bayan Shinwari has been reelected as head, Mulavi Din Mohammad Azimi as deputy head and Mohammad Qasim Elyasi as secretary of the commission. ....

IECC Member Accuses Group of Ethnic Prejudice
Mohammad Younus Toghra, a member of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC), on Thursday accused the body of ethnic prejudice and nepotism in its internal elections. 
Toghra said he won the election to lead the IECC twice in the internal election of the commission, however, some members within the commission do not recognize his victory because of their ethnic, racial and geographical prejudice. 
“One of the miseries of our society is this problem that originates from racial, ethnic and geographical discrimination. We never manage to resolve these issues,” said Toghra.
Election monitoring bodies have said that in order to resolve tensions in the commission, its members should act on its internal procedures. ....

IEC, IECC Call to Amend Afghan Election Law
Afghanistan’s electoral institutions the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Wednesday briefed Afghan political parties and members of civil society institutions about draft amendments to the country’s electoral system.
The two commissions said they hope the contents in the draft amendments will further strengthen the Afghan electoral system and give it more credibility in future elections.
In the draft plan, the electoral bodies have recommended the following for future elections:
• The introduction of an electronic voting system

KABUL - Political observers want the government to explain why some individuals, whose names have been removed from the list of Wolesi Jirga candidates over allegations of crimes, have been appointed to key positions.
In 2018, the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) had dropped from the list of parliamentary election runners 35 individuals accused of leading or belonging to illegal armed groups and involvement unlawful activities.
The disqualified candidates then staged demonstrations, calling the decision politically-motivated. The vehemently denied having illegal gunmen or involvement in crimes.
However, since the formation of the new government in March 2020, at least eight of the rejected candidates have been appointed to important government positions. ....
