5 miners, 2 rescuers killed in coal mining disaster in Balochistan's Harnai

At least five coal miners and two rescuers died due to suffocation after a methane gas fire broke out in the southwestern Pakistani province of Balochistan. This is the second mine disaster in the region within a week.
The fire took place at a mine in the Tor Ghar area of Harnai district, about 170 km west of the provincial capital Quetta, late on Monday, reported Al Jazeera citing government official Sohail Anwer Hashmi.
The coal miners entered inside the mine to fill the cracks caused by [the] fire, but they died of asphyxia caused by the deadly methane gas, Hashmi said. ....

A GoFundMe that was started for the family of a miner who died in a “mud rush” accident near Kamloops has raised almost $100,000 in three days.
Raymond Rosenberg, 35, died following the accident at New Afton Mine near Kamloops, Feb. 2. Two other workers were also injured in the mud rush. The contract driller’s body was recovered Feb. 3.
An online fundraiser that was set up Feb. 3 by relative Tasha Gruber had an initial goal of raising $25,000 for Rosenberg’s partner Keisha Gronning and their four children.
As of Feb. 6, the GoFundMe has raised $97,977 from 840 donors. It has been shared nearly 4,000 times. ....

BEIJING, Jan 24 (Reuters): Chinese rescuers pulled 11 gold miners to safety on Sunday, 14 days after they were trapped by an underground explosion, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
Footage showed the first miner to be rescued, a black blindfold across his eyes, being lifted out of a mine shaft in the morning. ....

BEIJING, Jan 24, 2021 (AFP): Rescue workers on Sunday lifted out the first of 22 miners trapped for two weeks hundreds of metres underground in an east China mine, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
The man, discovered Sunday in a separate section of the mine to the 10 workers who had already established contact with rescuers, was in extremely weak physical condition , CCTV said.
Rescuers have been battling difficult conditions to help the workers since an underground explosion at the Hushan mine in Shandong province sealed them underground amid rising waters on Jan 10. ....
