Every year, the holiday season is marked in Gainesville with the University of Florida s Environmental Horticulture Club poinsettia sale. Leafy bursts of red, white and green fill rows of greenhouse space and arms of eager plant lovers for days. 2020 was no exception despite extra precautions amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Maryanna Dose and Zachary Ray, two 21-year-old UF seniors, were lead growers on the semesters-long project this year. They said the club was able to completely sell out of poinsettias a day ahead of schedule, showing unprecedented success for the club and community in the midst of virus concerns.
