PUTRAJAYA: The wrangle between Kedah and Penang over Sungai Muda could be resolved by setting up a Muda River Basin Authority (MRBA), the Environment and Water Ministry has proposed.
Describing the confrontation between the Penang and Kedah governments over the river as “untenable”, the ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Seri Zaini Ujang, said such an authority was provided for under the Federal Constitution. ....

PUTRAJAYA, March 11 About RM280 billion in investment fund is needed to upgrade water infrastructure for sustainable water supply in the country.
Water and Environment Minister, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said this was necessary as the water sector required a shift and a new approach that was comparable for the other utilities.
“The water sector requires a new funding framework that is investor-friendly be drawn up for that purpose,” he said at the first anniversary celebration of the ministry, here, today. ....

Water reclamation initiative as national alternative water source

IWK is now pioneering the supply of reclaimed water through renewable processes with the cooperation of the Environment and Water Ministry, the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and water operators.
ACCORDING to statistics last year, Malaysia recorded a population of about 32.7 million people. The increase in population each year will certainly raise demand for various essential needs, especially clean water and food resources.
As such, our Government has stated its commitment under the Green Technology Master Plan 2017-2030 to reuse 33% of treated effluent water to the benefit of Malaysians.
In this regard, the related initiative has been included in the Environment and Water Ministry’s direction towards Environmental Sustainability in Malaysia (2020-2030), which aims to produce 1,500 million litres per day of reclaimed water from treated effluent. ....

Ministry investigating claims of black patches of water in Sg Kim Kim, Johor

KLUANG (Bernama): The Environment and Water Ministry (Kasa) has instructed relevants departments including the Environment Department (DOE) to investigate the black patches of water claimed to be pollutants in Sungai Kim Kim.
Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said water samples have been taken and drones deployed to monitor the affected stretch of the river to identify the source of the black patches.
We do not want a recurrence of the toxic waste dumping incident. As soon as we received the report, DOE officers were instructed to visit the site at Sungai Kim Kim. ....
