EPA The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has ruled out pesticide as causing the recent deaths of beach worms at beaches on the NSW Mid North Coast. Commercial fisherman reported dead beach worms on Yagon Beach, near Seal Rocks, on 3 June 2021. Laboratory testing of beach worms, pipis, sea water and sand from this location has found no evidence of pesticide or algal toxins. The Department of Primary Industries laboratory has also ruled out disease as a cause of the deaths. The EPA was informed that National Parks and Wildlife Service had sprayed bitou bush at Yagon Beach with pesticides in May and June, however a review of tidal conditions, groundwater and beach recession has led the EPA to conclude that the beach worm mortality was caused by natural events. ....

NSW EPA The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has fined the Bowral Waste Centre Pty Ltd $15,000 for alleged poor landfill management practices, likely to have contributed to offensive odours. Residents living near the Kiama Street waste centre in Bowral have complained to the EPA about offensive ‘rotten egg’ odours since late May this year. During the most recent inspection on 18 June 2021 EPA officers also detected the odours. “During the inspection EPA officers observed a large area of uncovered waste at the south western corner of the landfill,” EPA Executive Director Steve Beaman said. “The company’s licence requires exposed waste to be covered at the end of each day. This requirement reduces the chance that odours can escape offsite and impact nearby homes and businesses. ....

NSW EPA · The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is leading the collection and removal of shoreline debris and waste following the devastating March 2021 floods across NSW. Clean up contractor Varley Group will be removing flood debris from the Manning River and the EPA is working to minimise impacts to the environment and human health when doing this work. Most debris will be removed via the Manning Point boat ramp and nearby Bohnock boat ramp. A standing area at Manning Point boat ramp has been established to manage the collected debris being off-loaded from boats. The removal of flood debris and silage waste (bales) is scheduled to commence from 7 May 2021. ....
