How Remi Tinubu's Signal Influenced Voting on Electronic Transfer of Results

With a cryptic signal message, the decision, last week, by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House Representatives to vote against electronic transmission of results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, might have been influenced by Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
By implication, the senator representing Lagos Central in the upper chamber of the legislature, it was believed, subtly passed on the message of her husband and one of the national leaders of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by voting against electronic transfer of results.
A member of the House of Representatives from Chinkun/Kajuru Federal Constituency area of Kaduna State, Hon Yakubu Barde, who identified the role of the APC leader in the voting pattern of the lower chamber of the National Assembly, described the moment the game changed as akin to the biblical anecdote of the “voice of Jacob and hand of Esau”. ....

'The Parliament is Doing the Needful to Help Curb Insecurity'

Udora Orizu holds a discussion with the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Hon. Babajimi Benson on salient issues, including the ongoing secessionist agitations and worsening insecurity
A lot has been said on the issue of insecurity, but the country’s security situation is getting worse, what exactly is your committee doing to proffer lasting solutions?
We are doing a lot, recently we met with the parents of the students abducted in Kaduna. We’ve had behind the scene meetings as well, a lot is going on. Security issues are best discussed behind closed doors. We also know that the insurgents, bandits or kidnappers listen to TV attentively as well, they tend to pick up information from what we say, they also watch debates of parliament. You can be rest assured that under my leadership we are doing the needful, we are working well with the security agencies and the service Chiefs, they are very cooperative and passionate as well. We are doing our pos ....

It was our first Prime Minister Alhaji Tafawa Balewa who once observed that the “Nigerian democracy should be an ethnic commonwealth which should give each constituent a fair place under its umbrella even if they have lost at the polls.”
This succinct wisdom long uttered more than 60 years ago is the very pivot of the present agitation for a more equitable union.
However, the present shadow boxing in the name of the constitution review will not meet Balewa’s standard.
And thus, when the Senate Constitutional Review Committee berthed in Lagos the other day, it was without any inkling of democratic seriousness, totally devoid of any sense of fairness, indifferent to the equitable pursuit of justice. ....

I wept as I watched the videoclip of the reunion of the Greenfield University Students and their Parents, over the weekend. They were tears of sadness and joy; sadness because of the five children who were senselessly and needlessly killed by their abductors, and joy because the Parents were able to raise enough money to secure the release of the rest of the children, after about 40 days in captivity. We say Alhamdulillah, Praise the Lord!
As for open grazing, it must not be permitted anymore. Viable alternatives by stakeholders, must be implemented forthwith. It is not only a danger for farmers, but motorists and other road users. I saw a videoclip of a cow that with its horns, it lifted a motorcyclist whose bike stalled, and slammed down with force, both the bike and motorcyclist on the hard surface of the road. I hope the motorcyclist did not die. Coming back from Abeokuta on ....
