Chemical Sensors and Patterned Electrodes

Chemical Sensors and Patterned Electrodes
Additive manufacturing (AM) is frequently used to create small-scale patterned electrodes for scientific micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS).
Platypus Technologies employs this approach to generate patterned gold thin films on glass, creating these via e-beam metal evaporation using a titanium adhesion layer. This process helps improve the film’s mechanical stability.
The gold films of patterned electrodes exhibit a considerable level of purity (99.999%) as well as low surface roughness that is generally down to the nanometer-scale.

These particular patterned electrodes are manufactured without organic solvents or photoresist, both of which have the potential to contaminate the gold’s surface. ....

Bangalore Mirror Bureau / Updated: Apr 4, 2021, 06:00 IST
Researchers from the
Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research have developed sensors that can detect toxic mercury in drinking water.
They have proposed the use of cysteine conjugated naphthalene diimide (
CNC) bolaamphiphile functionalised etched Fiber Bragg grating (eFBG) sensor for
detection of mercury in drinking water.
In a paper published on highly sensitive and rapid detection of mercury in water using functionalised etched fiber Bragg grating sensors, the researchers said elemental
mercury is present in the environment due to natural and man-made causes such as volcanic eruptions, combustion of fossil fuels, industrial effluents, etc. ....

CMMC board preps for staff changes -- Defense Systems

By Lauren C. Williams
Mar 16, 2021
The governing body in charge of standing up and running the Defense Department’s unified cybersecurity standard for contractors is preparing to shift to a more permanent staffing arrangement.
Since it officially stood up in January 2020, the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Accreditation Body (CMMC-AB) has been run by industry professionals volunteering their time, often in addition to their primary careers.
“The AB is in the process of hiring professional staff to provide the needed level of effort for continuing its mission,” Karlton Johnson, the body’s chairman, said. “That will allow those on the board to transition from hands-on working members to the true advisory role that all boards are chartered to fill.” ....
