BHUBANESWAR: Given the state’s immense tourism potential, this year’s budget could prove to be the game changer in the years to come. While talks have mostly centred around building temple infrastructure, the budget showed the developments could usher in greater footfall to the state and open up new revenue streams.
On Monday, finance minister Niranjan Pujari made a huge allocation of Rs 942 crore for three temple projects in Puri, Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur, a move that is likely to boost temple tourism in the state. Besides, the minister has also hiked allocation for the tourism sector by 25% in a bid to promote eco-tourism, which has generated plenty of buzz off late. ....

BHUBANESWAR: In a plot straight out of Bollywood movie Special 26, a 59-year-old man of Jagatsinghpur was arrested for minting money from businessmen by impersonating as an Income Tax officer. The accused, Umakanta Rout was earlier working with IT department in the Capital as a peon. He used to demand money from businessmen in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by impersonating himself as a senior officer of the IT department and threatened them of dire consequences if they did not agree to pay the amount. ....

Bhubaneswar: A man was arrested for allegedly posing as an Income Tax officer and trying to extort Rs 10,000 from a businessman while threatening to raid his firm.
The matter came to light after one Debasish Patnaik lodged a complaint against the accused, identified as Umakanta Rout (59), at Kharvelnagar Police Station.
In his complaint, Debasish stated that Umakanta posing as an Income Tax officer demanded Rs 10,000 from him.
Umakanta further threatened Debasish of dire consequences if he does not comply to his demand, the victim alleged.
Based on the plaint, police launched a probe and arrested the accused. ....
