N80b hard drugs seized in three months —NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said its operatives seized illicit drugs worth N80 billion in the past three months.
Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Brig Gen Buba Marwa (rtd) said this when the acting Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba, visited him at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
Marwa, who reached 100 days in office on Wednesday, said over two million kilogrammes of various illicit drugs have been seized by the Agency within the period.
He said 2,100 persons were arrested and 350 convictions have been secured.
He said the IGP’s visit was timely, calling for renewed collaboration between the Agency and police, especially as the use of drugs is the major reason for to criminal activities in Nigeria. ....

Police arrest Woman for poisoning 3-year-old stepson with Sniper Insecticide

The suspect
Operatives of the 9th Mile Police Division, Enugu, have arrested one Nnenna Egwuagu, 29 of Umulumgbe in Udi Local government Area of the state for allegedly administering substance to her stepson, one Wisdom Egwuagu, 3, thereby causing his sudden death.
Her husband and father of the deceased child, Justine Egwuagu, who reported the incident to the Police, alleged that the unusual actions of the suspect towards the child caused his death.
ASP Daniel Nduwe, Police Public Relations Officer, said the suspect confessed to having administered the noxious substance, suspected to be that of sniper insecticide, to the child.
“She claimed that her action was due to her husband’s inability to take care of her and their daughter; and that she wanted the child to become sick so her husband could spend money to treat him. The child was confirmed dead in the hospital and his corpse deposited in the mortuary for autopsy. ....

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, says operatives of the Eastern Security Network carried out Monday attacks in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Adamu condemned the alleged act by the security arm of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.
But the IPOB has since denied being behind the attacks.
The IGP in a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, ordered the immediate deployment of additional units of Police Mobile Force and other Police Tactical Squads to the state to strengthen security in the state and prevent further attacks on security formations or any other critical national infrastructure in the state. ....
