BANGKOK - A virologist and advisor to Thailand's government on Tuesday (July 13) endorsed a plan to mix doses of the coronavirus vaccines of AstraZeneca and Sinovac, amid some public unease about use of the largely untested strategy.
There has been no research released specifically about mixing the two types, but a growing number of countries are looking at mix-and-match approaches to better protect from highly transmissible variants, the latest, Thailand's neighbour, Vietnam.

Democrats lose stronghold in by-election

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: The Democrat Party has lost a major stronghold, conceding defeat in the by-election in constituency 3 on Sunday.
About 9.45pm, after vote counting was completed, Nuchnapang Limdulpaiboon, director of the provincial election committee, announced the unofficial result.
He said Ayasit Srisuphan of the Palang Pracharath Party came first with 48,701 votes.
Second was Pongsin Senpong of the Democrat Party with 44,632 votes, followed by Sarawut Suwanrat of the Kla Party with 6,216, and Apirat Rattanapan of the Seri Ruam Thai Party, with 2,302 votes.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha denied an allegation made during a no-confidence debate that he had received benefits related to illegal gambling dens.
The issue was raised by Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves, leader of the opposition Seri Ruam Thai Party, at the start of the four-day debate on Tuesday.
Gen Prayut rebutted the claim, saying the information was taken from the media and solid evidence and witnesses were still required to back the claim.

A coalition of opposition parties yesterday filed a motion of no-confidence in the government targeting 10 cabinet ministers, including Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
The motion calling for a censure debate was backed by 208 MPs.
Led by Pheu Thai, the motion was co-signed by the Move Forward, Prachachart, Seri Ruam Thai, Pheu Chart, Palang Puang Chon Thai, New Economics and Thai Civilized parties.
Pheu Thai leader Sompong Amornvivat, who is also leader of the opposition in the House of Representatives, led the group submitting the motion to House Speaker Chuan Leekpai.

A coalition of opposition parties on Monday filed a motion of no-confidence targeting 10 cabinet ministers, including Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, with House Speaker Chuan Leekpai.
The motion calling for a censure debate was backed by 208 MPs.
Led by Pheu Thai, the other parties which co-signed the motion are Move Forward, Prachachart, Seri Ruam Thai, Pheu Chart, Palang Puang Chon Thai, New Economics and Thai Civilized.
Pheu Thai leader Sompong Amornvivat, leader of the opposition in the House of Representatives, led the other party leaders in submitting the no-confidence motion to Mr Chuan.
