A LABOR leader is pushing for paid quarantine benefits for workers amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Roland de la Cruz of the National Congress of Unions in the Sugar Industry of the Philippines (Nacusip) said Covid-19 as a compensable occupational and work-related disease is not enough.
De la Cruz, who is based in the province, said as the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC), through its Board Resolution 21-04-14 dated April 6, 2021, declared the compensability of Covid-19 as an occupational and work-related disease, many Filipino workers continue to suffer the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic especially those who are not declared positive but have to undergo isolation and quarantine for 14 days as a required by health protocols. ....

On Wednesday night, April 28, Institute for Occupational Health and Safety Development (IOHSAD) marked International Workers’ Memorial Day through a candle-lighting activity in hospitals to pay tribute to those “who have laid their lives in the cause to improve and save workers’ lives.”
“We remember all workers who have died saving the lives of, and providing essential services to, Filipinos. We condemn the government for failing to provide sufficient protection to our workers. At the same time, we raise alarm on the possibility of COVID-19 outbreaks in workplaces if the government refused to immediately act on workers’ health and safety demands,” Nadia De Leon, IOHSAD Executive Director, said in a statement. ....

Approved - 14-day paid pandemic leave bill for Filipino workers

MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): The House labour and employment committee has approved a measure providing a 14-day paid pandemic leave to workers in a bid to give them further relief amid the crisis.
In an online hearing on Friday (Dec 11), the panel chaired by 1Pacman Rep. Enrico Pineda gave the green light to House Bill No. 7909 or the Paid Pandemic Leave Law of 2020.
The measure was authored by Representatives Arlene Brosas, Carlos Zarate, Ferdinand Gaite, Eufemia Cullamat, France Castro, and Sarah Jane Elago of the Makabayan bloc.
The Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) and the Employers Confederation of the Philippines did not pose any objection to the measure, which gives workers additional benefits to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. ....
