In a normal year, downtown Chambersburg would be heating up for the coolest event of the year: IceFest. 
It should be no surprise to anyone why the winter festival, which attracts tens of thousands of people to the Main Street corridor as January turns to February, was canceled this year: COVID-19. 
The IceFest planning committee made the decision in the first half of November at the beginning of what would become a massive surge of coronavirus cases in the region. With the logistics of the festival - people gathering at elaborate ice sculptures placed feet apart along sidewalks, tight spaces in downtown retailers, a big variety of activities spread among four days - organizers decided they had to cancel it out of respect for the safety of the community,  said Sam Thrush, the president of Downtown Chambersburg Inc.  ....
