In one scene of Ojai Art Center Theater’s latest live play, “Family Furniture,” as Claire and son Nick clean up porch furniture, Nick wonders aloud why his parents don’t just buy new furniture. Claire replies, “There’s something resonant about using old family things.” 
In playwright A.R. Gurney’s look at family life in Buffalo, he examines the older generation’s desire to keep things the way they are versus the younger generation’s aim to try new things. The play deals with infidelity, bigotry, anti-Semitism, and an unplanned pregnancy. Firefighters attempt hillside horse rescue in Thousand Oaks


Rescue crews were contacted around 7:30 a.m. in the area of Lynn Ranch.
Sara, a 25-year-old horse, had fallen down a hillside and became wedged against a retaining wall, according to authorities. In order to conduct the rescue, the large animal rescue team deployed ropes and pulley to lift Sara from the bottom of the hill.
At 11:34 a.m., the Ventura County Fire Department said Sara died after succumbing  to injuries suffered from the fall despite care from firefighters and a veterinarian on scene.
The rescue was the second animal rescue conducted by Ventura County crews in the past few days after an 80-pound dog was rescued from the Sespe Creek trail north of Ojai on Friday. ....

Search And Rescue Team Helps Injured Dog In Ventura County Backcountry

Dog has to be carried more than four miles
A search and rescue team made a very unusual rescue in Ventura County over the weekend, helping a dog injured on a remote trail.
Lusha was on a three day camping trip with her owner on the Sespe Creek Trail. The eight year old Rottweiler injured one of her front paws, and couldn’t walk. The dog’s owners ran into a nearby group of people who had a satellite phone, who called for help.
The Upper Ojai Search and Rescue Team responded to help. The team hiked in four miles with a special stretcher, and brought the dog out to safety. The dog cooperated, and apparently didn’t mind getting a lift out of the area to safety. ....
