She was trying to finalise an Ipswich Flyers team comprising under-19 and under-17 players for the restructured Greater Brisbane Netball League (GBNL) series. With no senior Flyers team this senior, the hope was Ipswich could field a development side featuring the region s most exciting youth. However, the under-17 team has only just come together with some under-19 players withdrawing due to study and other commitments. Waiting for confirmation who the Flyers play at Nissan Arena on Friday night, head coach Smith is adopting a positive approach for the new GBNL competition. ....

After another tremendous performance at the latest Little Athletics Queensland Combined Events championships, she has to be. Charlize, who turns 16 next year, set Queensland records in the under-15 javelin and for overall points winning her under-15 state heptathlon title. The Karalee all-rounder was outstanding in the javelin, smashing the previous state record of 43.30m. Charlize threw a personal best 43.80m. The Ipswich Little Athletics Centre achiever set a second Queensland record in amassing 4958 points from her seven events. The previous highest state record was 4818 points. Charlize can compete for two more seasons with the Ipswich Little Athletics Centre. ....

She earnt a reward from her supportive mum Kym after an impressive personal best performance in the heptathlon at QSAC last weekend. I was kind of aiming for that because I had a bet with my mum, Charlize said. If I got over 4850 points, which I did, I get to go to Bribie (Island) and see one of my friends from school. Charlize won her gold medal in the under-16 heptathlon with 4937 points. The Ipswich and District Athletic Club (IDAC) all-rounder smashed her previous best total of 4610. ....
