No arrest on basis of FIR alone allowed in Sindh now

The provincial cabinet on the recommendation of IG Police has approved an amendment in Rule 26 of Police Rules 1934 envisioning to stop police officers from making arrest of a person merely on account of registration of First Information Report (FIR).
It was approved in cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah here at CM House on Saturday. The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, advisors, Chief Secretary, Chairperson P&D and concerned officers.
Now after amendment, it provides for police officers to collect credible evidence of involvement of the accused in that crime and seek approval from the senior police officer beforehand. This amendment would stop police from making unnecessary arrests of people. ....

KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet on Saturday approved an amendment in the police rules and handing over of four hospitals of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to the provincial health department.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over a five-hour-long cabinet meeting and took important decisions including procurement of security featured number plates for vehicles and reduced cotton fee from Rs20 to Rs10 per 100kg.
The cabinet approved a proposal to take over four KMC hospitals Gizri Maternity Hospital, Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, Gazdarabad General Hospital in district South and Landhi Medical Complex in district Korangi along with their staff and hand them over to the Sindh health department. ....

Cabinet amends police rules to stop arrests merely on basis of FIR

In the five-hour-long meeting of the provincial cabinet on Saturday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took several decisions including amending the police rules under which an accused could not be arrested without credible evidence.
The cabinet also decided to hand four hospitals under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) over to the provincial health department, procure security featured retro-reflective number plates for vehicles and reduce cotton fee from Rs20 per 100 kilogramme (kg) to Rs10 per 100kg.
The cabinet meeting was here at the CM House. It was attended by provincial ministers, advisers, the chief secretary, Planning and Development Board chairperson and others. ....
