The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is expected to release a discussion paper on NBFCs (nonbanking finance companies) this week that will suggest large shadow banks should hold a share of their deposits or funds in cash, gold and government securities, mimicking asset sequestration regulations that apply to scheduled commercial banks.
Fears of such tighter regulations on the sector had its impact on the stock markets with the Sensex slumping over 470 points and the Nifty ending below the 14300 mark. ....

Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company announces resignation of Managing Director

With effect from 14 February 2021 Cholamandalam Investment & Finance Company announced that Arun Alagappan has tendered his resignation as Managing Director and as a director of the Company as he wishes to move ahead to assume larger responsibilities within the Group and the Board has accordingly considered and accepted the same today. Arun Alagappan will be relieved from the services of the Company effective end of the day, 14 February 2021.

Motilal Oswal in their recent note talk about the sharp decline in an incremental cost of funds that may help in margin expansion for the quality players. The report states, NBFCs have seen significant volatility in CY20 on the borrowings front from a sharp increase in the cost of funds in 2Q to multi-year lows by the end of CY20.
Given the abundant liquidity in the system and RBI’s accommodative stance, incremental CoF across sources is likely to remain benign. NBFCs with a niche presence and strong pricing power are likely to witness margin expansion. Reduction in excess liquidity on the balance sheet and benefit of capital raise for a few players would also aid margins. ....
