‘Allocate captive mines to VSP and convert loans into equity’
The Vizag Steel Plant Parirakshana Committee has condemned the indifferent attitude of the Union government towards the Visakahaptnam Steel Plant (VSP) agitation, which was being held for the past one month.
The committee held its meeting, condemned the Centre advising the State governments on privatisation of PSUs at a time when the Steel Plant agitation was gripping Andhra Pradesh.
It felt that it was nothing but making a mockery of people’s struggle. It demanded immediate revocation of the decision to privatise the Visakahaptnam Steel Plant and allocate captive mines to it apart from converting loans into equity. ....

‘They will impose a huge burden on common people’
The Visakha Apartment Residents Welfare Association (VARWA) and NIVAS (Greater Visakha Residential Colony Associations Federation) demanded cancellation of the proposed hike in property tax, underground drainage charges and water tax.
VARWA representative N. Prakasa Rao said that the association was organising various programmes and trying to create awareness among the citizens on the proposed reforms in tax collections, which would cause a huge burden on the common people. The plan was to collect UGD tax based on the number of commodes in a house, which was ridiculous. ....

Representatives of Visakhapatnam Apartment Residents’ Welfare Association (VARWA) and NIVAS at their meeting here on Thursday decided to launch an agitation to demand withdrawal of the steep hike in property tax, water tax and UGD tax.
The meeting discussed the steep hike in property tax, water tax and UGD charges and noted that it would result in an increase in taxes by three to 10 times. The fixing of water meters to the taps would result in a three-fold increase in water charges. This would cause undue burden on the common man, they said, demanding withdrawal of the proposal to hike property tax based on the value of the property. ....
