Sanwo-Olu flags off Red line rail project as Lagos compensates property owners


The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has flagged off the construction of the 37-km Rail Mass Transit Red Line, which will traverse from Agbado to Marina, moving over 1 million commuters daily.
This is as the state started the compensation of identified project-affected persons of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line project with the Governor handing over cheques to displaced property owners who were affected by the right-of-way.
The groundbreaking ceremony which took place at the Ikeja Train Station on Thursday was witnessed by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who was represented by the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh, and the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat. ....

Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, presented cheques of various sums to 263 landlords and tenants affected by the ongoing construction of the Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line Project in the state.
Recall that the LRMT dream began in 1983 during the tenure of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, but was truncated by the then Federal Government. Sanwo-Olu has vowed to ensure that the Blue Line and the Red Line are completed to the memory of the late Jakande.
The 37-kilometre Rail Mass Transit Red Line, which will traverse from Agbado to Marina, is estimated to move more than one million commuters daily. ....

FAAN Records 5m Passengers in 6 Months


The domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, known as the General Aviation Terminal One (GAT) recorded over five million passengers between July and December, 2020.
This was disclosed by the Terminal Manager, Mr. Adekunle Aderibigbe, who said passenger traffic was low during the period, but picked up during the Yuletide celebrations despite the effects of the pandemic.
He added that the airlines were up to their game in deploying more aircraft to handle the passenger upsurge.
Aderibigbe explained that safety, security and comfort of passengers remained the priority of FAAN, especially in compliance with the COVID-19 protocols. He, however, stated that the major challenge faced by the airport staff was dealing with travellers who refuse to comply with the protocols, saying despite the evidence of deaths caused by coronavirus, some people still believe the virus can’t kill Nigerians. ....
