New Delhi, April 10 : Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Khelo India Centre of Excellence in Rowing in Srinagar on Saturday.
The training centre, situated in Dal Lake, that comes under the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council was upgraded with modern facilities and equipment including 16 new boats four each in single sculls and double sculls.
Four coxless four boats too have been purchased for the centre that has 50 regular athletes under the scheme.
The region has huge potential. The training centre will give a chance to youngsters of the region to excel through water sports, said the sports minister. ....

The chief guest on the occasion gave away the medals and certificates to the winners and participants. Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Baseer Khan expressed happiness on the successful completion of the 10th J&K UT Shooting Championship.
He also congratulated all the winners, organizers and authorities of J&K Rifle Association who made all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event. The Advisor extended all the possible help in the promotion of shooting as a sports activity in JK. UDHAMPUR, Jan 9: Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, Udhampur today started the premier league 2020-21 phase-1 in the disciplines of Hockey, Football, Kabaddi and Volleyball, here at Indoor sports Complex, Subash Stadium.
District Development Commissioner, Dr Piyush Singla was the chief guest and declared the premier league open, while Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Syed Khan was the special guest.
Over 370 players and officials drawn from different Blocks of the District Udhampur took part in the competition. Manager Sports Council, Shaktish Chopra, presented the welcome address on the occasion. ....
