Waikato District Council opts for lower rates rise, says $1 billion spend achievable


Submitters to the Long Term Plan didn’t want rate increases, but the growing district faced increasing infrastructure costs, he said.
“A lot of people think the council is an extension of central Government, and we’ve got a bottomless pit of money from other sources.
“We don’t, we’re funded by the ratepayer.”
Sanson said Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency pulled out about $11million in funding – which the council matches with its own funding – for local roads.
He maintained roads wouldn’t suffer as a result.

Chair
Jacqui Church, with a team of 15 other women from Port
Waikato, has been hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast every year
since 2013. Over the years the team has raised over $32,000
for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. This year, they’re hoping ....

Covid-19: Police turn away hundreds of people at Auckland-Waikato border

Commuters were waiting up to three hours to get out of Auckland into Waikato on Monday, the first day of level 3 restrictions.
“We are checking proof of address, if the people are in uniforms, we are verifying where they work.”
Police have set up other checkpoints around Auckland s borders to monitor travel in and out of the city.
