No social houses in Killorglin suitable for elderly people or those with disability

There are currently no social houses in Killorglin that are suitable for a person who’s elderly or has a disability.
That’s according to Fianna Fáil councillor John Francis Flynn, who raised the matter at the recent Kenmare Municipal District meeting.
He says that all housing projects should have a certain percentage suitable for people who can’t use stairs.
Cllr Flynn says he knows of one pensioner sleeping on a couch as he’s unable to climb stairs, while another woman can’t return to her home from hospital for the same reason.
He says there are 14 brand new social houses in Ardmoniel and not one of them is suitable for people who can’t climb stairs. ....

Vital rural services are being taken away from local communities according to local politicians, who have hit out the latest branch closures by Bank of Ireland this week.
The decision by Bank of Ireland to close three Kerry branches - in Killorglin, Castleisland and at Tralee MTU - comes hot on the heels of Ulster Bank pulling out of the Irish market and affects customers across Kerry.
Services were already at a minimum at the branches, but the decision has been labelled an attack on rural Ireland .
Up to now our main worry was about the closure of small rural Post Offices which are so crucial to rural life, but the announcement of the closure by Bank of Ireland of 88 of its branches has brought devastation, for both business and private customers, to a whole new level, said Cllr Michael Cahill. ....

Most schools across the county close today (Tuesday) for Christmas holidays but in the past week many have kept children home from school in light of fears about the spread of the virus. In Killorglin dozens of families have been affected by the outbreak but it has also hit other parts of he county as well including Tralee where Presentation Primary sent home a junior infants class early last week following a confirmed case in the school. There has been confirmed cases in almost all of Tralee s schools. Letters were sent to families and c ....
