Clemson University trustees approved a $21 million project to widen Perimeter Road on-campus, which would make the commuter roadway four lanes in its entirety, according to a presentation given to the board. 
The project would widen the two-lane sections of the road which is a high-traffic commuter road and used during athletic events and is the latest part of the university s multi-year roadway improvement project. 
A traffic consultant said the highest priority for the project is to lessen traffic on State 93/Walter T. Cox Boulevard, which circles the north part of campus. 
Traffic has increased on State 93 since the opening of the new College of Business and Douthit Hills dormitories, so the school wants to help ease traffic on the high-volume thoroughfare with this project. ....
