Historian Judy Flores shared how oral history from CHamoru elders in Inarajan has been able to preserve important history of the village.
Flores shared a presentation Thursday, Celebrating 340 Years: The History of Saint Joseph Parish of Inalahan, during the 5th Marianas History Conference hosted by the University of Guam.
St. Joseph Parish is working on a book to commemorate the long history of the saint in Inarajan.
The origins of how the statue of St. Joseph is unclear in written accounts at the time, Flores said.
Written history from outsiders shares brief details of the founding of the Inarjan parish and its dedication to St. Joseph but leaves a lot of unanswered questions, she said. ....
