Local volunteers are being celebrated and recognized on a new Facebook page, “Jasper Volunteers,” which recently launched in time for National Volunteer Week.
Running from April 18 to April 24 this year, National Volunteer Week celebrates and thanks Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers.
“We definitely decided to take this to social media and help celebrate in that matter,” said Ginette Marcoux, one of the organizers behind the Facebook page. ....

Jasper's A&W helping end youth hunger through Mealshare program

JASPER, ALTA.
Customers visiting Jasper s A&W can contribute to the Jasper Food Bank via Mealshare, a Canadian national social enterprise operating across the country since 2012, with a goal of ending youth hunger.
A partnership with A&W Canada means one thousand A&W locations across the country are part of the program. Local A&W owner Nazir Chatur is happy to be giving back to the community.
The COVID-19 pandemic slowed down Mealshare s partnerships but community spirit continues.
“The pandemic meant a number of businesses went down and Mealshare was definitely at risk for closing for good because we rely on the restaurant industry for fundraising,” said Shree Govindarajan, Edmonton community leader for Mealshare. ....

Students spread festive cheer through Jasper on Food Bank donation drop – Jasper's source for news, sports, arts, culture, and more

Grade 1 teacher, Becky Koss, organized the festive event, called the Holiday Spirit Parade.
Carrying bags and pulling wagons stuffed with food items, Christmas-themed placards, candy canes and gingerbread people, the cohorts, with their respective teachers, strolled past the Alpine Summit Seniors Lodge, down the street past the hospital, around the corner to Pine Grove Manor and up to the Anglican Church.
An abundance of food items the groups carried or pulled from school were left at the door of the church for the Jasper Food Bank before the festive crew returned to school.
“It’s a school-wide activity to provide positivity and community connection, and Christmas joy,” Koss said. ....
