OPINION: Students should add color to wardrobe this spring


Spring in Pullman is a cornucopia of vibrancy and adventure. A walk down Monroe Street is a rendezvous with countless acquaintances, and a trip to Reaney or Ruby Street Park will highlight the soft, sprouting bloom of spring within all of us. 
Our clothes often match our moods and attitudes. As the season of cheery colors and a sweet intermixing of pastels and neons has made its dare I say official debut, our attire is bound to fall into step. 
As a mere Pinterest scroller and thrift store shopper, I decided the best people to speak with about this spring’s biggest trends would be WSU’s Apparel, Merchandising, Design, and Textiles majors.  ....

Virtual WSU Fashion Show explores moods, challenges of 2021 | WSU Insider

Titled Zeitgeist, the show features collections inspired by current society s changes and challenges, including the experience of immigrants, the struggle for democracy, barriers that women face, and the loss of friends to gun violence.
Exploring themes of hope, grief, justice, and innovation through fashion, more than a dozen apparel design students will present the Washington State University Fashion Show by video, Saturday, April 10.
Titled “Zeitgeist,” the show features collections inspired by current society’s changes and challenges, including the experience of immigrants, the struggle for democracy, barriers that women face, and the loss of friends to gun violence. Multiple designers address issues of ethics, environmentalism, equality, and inclusivity through creative fashion. Others pursue exploration and seek utopias and a futuristic world. ....

Style is an outward expression of yourself, and although it might not fit in with current trends, it’s still important to express yourself in that way even if others think you look foolish for not dressing like everyone else.
Many people are intrigued by the idea of “being trendy,” but have no foundation aside from influencers and cute outfits their friends put together. 
“When people think of fashion, ultimately it boils down to a consumer going into a store, looking at an item and saying, ‘This represents me, this represents my style. I want this piece of clothing to outwardly present to people and the world that this is who I am, ” said Jennifer Rossi, senior apparel, merchandising, design and textiles major.  ....
