Palmer: Despite political baggage, Kevin Falcon as B.C. Liberal leader would be a relentless foe for the NDP

Article content
VICTORIA  Premier Christy Clark was still working on ways to cling to power following the 2017 election when her longtime rival Kevin Falcon volunteered his take on why her B.C. Liberals had squandered their legislative majority in that year’s campaign.
“The B.C. Liberals really got hammered, particularly in the Lower Mainland,” the former cabinet ministertold Rob Shaw of The Vancouver Sun two days after the May 9 election. “I think that reflects frustration over a number of issues campaign finance, lack of progress over transportation projects, and just a little too much politics and not quite enough policy initiatives.” ....

Article content
VICTORIA Since the B.C. Liberals opened their leadership campaign six weeks ago, the party hasn’t been flooded with candidates.
First into the race after Andrew Wilkinson resigned Feb. 16 was Ellis Ross, second-term MLA for Skeena and the former chief of the Haisla Nation. His announcement fell well-short of the formal launch one associates with leadership campaigns.

B.C. Liberal party faces calls for renewal as leadership race heats up

Article content
The B.C. Liberal leadership race will be a battle for the soul of a party which insiders say is in desperate need of renewal after October’s crushing election defeat to the NDP.
With 11 months until the leadership vote, few have officially declared they are running. But potential candidates include party faithful and an anti-establishment right-wing YouTuber vowing to fight attempts to block him from the race.
