Caitlin Faulds Apr 7, 2021 David Gulley, of the Cross Neck Road Homeowners Association, presented evidence of the flooding on Cross Neck Road. MARION A one-mile-long, half-paved road stretching from Marion Golf Club to Brainard Marsh confounded area residents and board members alike during the Selectmen’s meeting on April 6. Parties debated whether Cross Neck Road truly lies on public or private land, and who should be charged with maintaining a road that, despite its normality in nearly every light, has proved enigmatic in ownership. David Gulley, of the Cross Neck Road Homeowners Association, presented evidence to suggest the road was indeed a public way. It is listed as such, he said, on the Marion website and in town records; cited as such by the land title company and twice by the town council. ....
MARION Plans for Marion’s new Harbormaster office are soon to be in ship-shape condition. After public input last summer and consultation with the Harbormaster and the MRC, the Board of Selectmen have developed new plans for the building that better suit the needs and character of Marion, according to a discussion at Tuesday night’s Selectmen meeting. “We’re really at a point now where we’re ready to show the plan back to the public and to the Board of Selectmen,” Town Administrator Jay McGrail said. Harbormaster Isaac Perry and the project architect will present the new building plans via Zoom on April 26 at 6 p.m. for comment from the public as well as the Selectmen. An email blast will also go out with the new designs, a comprehensive Q&A and important notes on changes to the Harbormaster, the Selectmen said. ....
Caitlin Faulds Apr 7, 2021 MARION The Board of Selectmen has closed the annual town warrant and scheduled a public pre-Town Meeting for May 4 at 5 p.m. The town warrant, which has been in the works since early September, was finalized and officially approved by the Selectmen on April 6. “This is a huge step in us getting there,” Town Administrator Jay McGrail said, noting the warrant has taken up roughly 70% of his time over the last several months. The Selectmen will send the warrant to the printer tomorrow, McGrail said, and the document should make it to residents’ mailboxes within three weeks. The warrant will also be posted on the Town website around the same time. ....
Caitlin Faulds Apr 7, 2021 MARION Marion hiked up its billing rates for ambulance services for the first time in eight years on Tuesday night. After leaving emergency transport fees untouched since 2013, the Board of Selectmen unanimously accepted a fee increase that would bring rates for privately insured ambulance trips up to the regional average, as advised by Fire Chief Brian Jackvony at an April 6 Selectmen’s meeting. “Over the last fiscal year, we have seen a decrease in our revenues from [Emergency Medical Service] billing,” Jackvony said, “and that was mostly due to the pandemic.” Emergency transports dropped from a high of 633 in 2019 to 503 in 2020, Jackvony said, and the accompanying fiscal impact pushed him to look at the rates of surrounding communities. ....
