Angono LGU eyes vacant spaces as vegetable gardens

To start the greening project, the municipal government has initially distributed seedlings of vegetables such as okra, eggplant, tomatoes, squash, cucumber, chili pepper, string beans, and bottle gourd (upo) to the residents.
Dr. Joel Tuplano, head of the Angono Municipal Agriculture Office told Manila Bulletin that the first day of seedling distribution outside the municipal hall on July 8 had attracted around 175 residents.
The office of Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said the seedling distribution, dubbed as Pantanim Project, would eventually result in transforming backyards and vacant lots into vegetable gardens with the residents themselves benefiting from the program. ....

Angono's Community PanTanim Project encourages vegetable gardening at home – Manila Bulletin

Even before the community pantries became popular, the municipal government of Angono, Rizal has been distributing free vegetable seeds to residents in line with its “Community PanTanim Project”.

Through the urban gardening project of the Angono Municipal Urban Agriculture (MUA), some residents have been given free vegetable seeds which they have propagated in their own backyard gardens or community eco-gardens in their villages.
Dr. Joel Tuplano, head of the MUA and also the town’s head veterinarian, told the Manila Bulletin that the municipal government has been giving away free seeds of the so-called “pinakbet veggies” or the vegetables used to cook Filipino dish “pinakbet” such as okra (lady fingers), sitaw (string beans), squash, and ampalay ....

Angono mayor gets vaccinated against COVID

In a Facebook post, Calderon said she volunteered to be vaccinated first to show Angono residents that the vaccine and safe and encourage them to get inoculated as well.
Alan Maniaol, chief of staff of Mayor Calderon, told Manila Bulletin that the town received 500 Sinovac vaccines which the local government would use to inoculate the town’s frontline personnel.
Also inoculated on April 6 were medical and other frontliners, disaster team personnel, social workers, and Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT) members of each barangays.
As of April 3, the town received 2,215 registrations for vaccination. ....
