BONN, Germany (25 May 2021) –
Almost half of Africa’s landscape is made up of drylands,
which are areas that suffer from high water scarcity and are
especially vulnerable to land degradation. Africa’s
drylands are home to over 500 million people, who depend
primarily on rain-fed agriculture and livestock husbandry
for their livelihoods.
Yet these livelihoods now face
three interconnected threats: climate change, armed
conflict, and the economic fallout from the COVID-19
pandemic.
Over 1.3
million people face starvation in Madagascar, while 29
million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in
the Sahel – and this may be just the tip of the iceberg. ....

Ghana Accepts €170m EIB Support for New National Development Bank | N

President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, Werner Hoyer, President of the European Investment Bank, and Thomas Ãstros, Vice President, today formally agreed to EUR 170 million EIB backing for the new National Development Bank of Ghana.
The EIB backing represents the largest ever engagement in Ghana by the worldâs largest international public bank and most significant support for a national development institution in Africa.
Once operational in the coming weeks the National Development Bank of Ghana will increase access to long-term finance and boost job creation for thousands of businesses in key sectors, including agribusiness, manufacturing, ICT tourism, and other services across Ghana. ....

CCREEE) launched the private sector stream of the Project Preparation Facility (
PPF) and now, the Centre kicked-off their public sector stream with a roundtable discussion.

New economy booster COVID-19 economic recovery programme comes to an end

The New Economy Booster programme (NEB), which has supported businesses focused on solving Covid-19 related socio-economic problems in Ghana, wrapped up on April 16, 2021.
Since its launch in September 2020, the social enterprise project has supported over 200 advanced and early-stage ventures, startups, non-profit organisations, and initiatives in Ghana.
NEB was designed by Impact Hub, lab of tomorrow and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development to provide financial and logistics support, partnership opportunities, coaching and mentorship, networking opportunities, training, investor introductions, and expert assistance.
Over 200 companies, which belong to Agriculture, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Education, Tourism, and Hospitality, were accepted into the first phase of the program known as the incubation track. Later, 15 out of the 200 progressed to the acceleration track. ....
