 When the New York City-based filmmaker Jeremy Hersh set out to write a film that would be relatively cheap to make, he said that he knew he needed to be âtaking a riskâ in the storytelling to make it worthwhile. In the end, he created The Surrogate, a microbudget indie that follows nonprofit web designer Jess (Jasmine Batchelor) as she acts as the surrogate and egg donor for gay couple, Josh (Chris Perfetti) and Aaron (Sullivan Jones). When the film begins, the trio are inseparable friends who spend every waking moment together, but when a prenatal test reveals that the baby will be born with Down syndrome, their differences in opinion on what to do next leads to a rift in their once-unbreakable bond. ....
