This week in 1912, the Hillsboro Dispatch reported the prediction that 65,000 automobiles would be licensed in Ohio, with the state registrar commenting “there seems to be no abatement in the interest in automobiles.” The Hillsboro Implement Company had the new 1912 Maxwell Mascotte touring car, advertised as the car for the American working man looking for a car under $1,000. The Hillsboro dealer had it for $980. ....

Willard and Rafert, sounding like country hayseeds, were on the air. “Willard, I heard something in town. Are you sitting down? Here, swallow your heart medicine. Mabel sold the diner. She’s going into the grain business. She just bought a Massey Ferguson combine.” The next morning, just like in the Groundhog Day movie, the radio alarm beeped again. Tim Colliver | The Times-Gazette A resolution providing new funding for the Highland County office of the 4th District Court of Appeals was approved Wednesday by Highland County commissioners Jeff Duncan, Terry Britton and David Daniels. Funds for the request will come from the county general fund, and Britton said it was earmarked for the offices of newly elected appeals court judge Kristy Wilkin. “It’s my understanding that when we front this money, we will be reimbursed on an apportioned basis depending on the number of counties in the appeals district,” Daniels said. ....
