Costly pipe repairs are causing commuter headaches in Wellington during the long weekend.
Workers toiling night and day fixing a broken pipe and sinkhole on Jervois Quay are now ahead of schedule, as congestion continues in Wellington’s inner city. The work – which has been described as six weeks of work in five nights and four days – has caused traffic congestion in and out of Wellington throughout the day on Friday. Wellington City Council spokesperson Richard MacLean said on Sunday afternoon he understood the work was ahead of schedule. Closing the major arterial route also had not led to too many traffic issues after rush hour on Friday although there was some congestion around the Terrace Tunnel on Sunday afternoon.
