Greenville: Man arrested, jailed for weeks, gets charges reduced after investigation questioned

Video from a shoplifting at a liquor store back in November 2020 has raised some questions about the investigation into that incident by the Greenville Police Department, documents obtained by WYFF News 4 reveal.The incident was reviewed by the department s Internal Affairs division, which recommended discipline. Greenville police Chief J.H. Thompson chose instead to use it as a lesson, according to those documents.Back on Nov. 23, 2020, police said Timothy Boykin and Dedravas Moore walked out of 19 Wine and Spirits off Verdae Boulevard in Greenville without paying for seven bottles of liquor, according to the store owner.Surveillance video obtained by WYFF News 4 shows the two men walking up to the front of the store, holding bottles. There seems to be an exchange of words with the store owner before they walk toward the door and run out. The owner chases them out with a baseball bat, according to the video. Greenville: Police release photo, new information about cold case murder, ask public for help

Greenville police investigators asked the public for help Tuesday about a murder that happened more than a year ago.Sgt. Johnathan Bragg said police were called to 207 Shaw St. around 6 p.m. on October 27, 2019, and found the body of 55-year-old Roger Taylor Belton. Belton had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and it was estimated that he had been dead for about 14 hours before being discovered by police.At the time, the home on Shaw Street was under renovation and was not being occupied.Detectives have spoken with several people since Belton’s death, but none of the information they have received has led to an arrest.Belton, who was homeless and used a walker, was known to others in the community as “Pops” and “Old Timer.”Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 864-23-CRIME. ....
