As the controversy over a Government-funded, gang-led drug rehab programme continues to rage, Judith Collins is calling on Jacinda Ardern to rule out a separate justice system for Māori.
Her challenge to the Prime Minister is part of National s demand the debate series, which was launched earlier this month and has put the spotlight on the controversial

The independent report was commissioned by the Government in 2019 and laid out a roadmap for how New Zealand can meet its obligations under the United Nations Declaration of Indigenous People, which was signed by Collins own party in 2010. The Government, which insists the report s contents are not policy, started consultation with iwi on some of the repo ....

Watch: Chief Human Rights Commissioner Paul Hunt on Newshub Nation.
ACT leader David Seymour is again calling to abolish the Human Rights Commission after revelations it made a donation to the Mongrel Mob.
Seymour has regularly called for the Commission to be abolished and doubled down this weekend after the Chief Human Rights Commissioner, Paul Hunt, appeared on Newshub Nation defending a recent donation of $200 to the Mongrel Mob - which triggered calls for his sacking.
Hunt said on Saturday it was a little bit unfair and unkind to demand his sacking, in an interview that Seymour described as extraordinary , demonstrating exactly why the Commission should be abolished .  ....

A political pundit says overall, the current Labour Government isn t open and transparent - despite portraying itself as being so.
Political commentator Ben Thomas comments come after a Radio New Zealand report earlier this week revealed that despite the Government saying before election 2020 it wouldn t give mining giant Rio Tinto a subsidy to prevent its Tiwai Point smelter from closing, it offered to cough up millions of dollars just months later.  ....

Is Jacinda Ardern's Government open and transparent? 'My overall answer would be no' - political pundit

It s been a slow winding back of that transparency and each Government is worse than the one before.
He added the Government had been very good at not giving in to Rio Tinto. The company had received hundreds of millions of dollars in direct and indirect Government subsidies over the years, including a $30 million bailout under former Prime Minister Sir John Key.
Despite receiving that money, Rio Tinto announced plans to shut up shop last year at its Tiwai Peninsula facility, New Zealand s only aluminium smelter, because of high energy costs - but later reached a four-year agreement with Meridian Energy to keep it open until at least the end of 2024.  ....

A Labour MP is backing his Government s decision to pause all quarantine-free travel with Australia.
The trans-Tasman travel bubble was suspended for at least three days on Saturday night amid a worsening COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney that has grown to 80 cases.
Chris Hipkins, New Zealand s COVID-19 Response Minister, said the pause will last until at least 11:59pm on Tuesday.
But epidemiologist Michael Baker said given the fact the green zone with Australia, in general, has worked well , he was quite surprised by the move. ....
